Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google (Alphabet), Facebook (Meta), and TikTok (Bytedance) are targeted by the European Union. European Union made a new law for these digital platforms. The new digital laws are creating boundaries to the power of these digital platforms.
These big tech firms are now classed as online “gatekeepers” which is why they face the highest level of security under the Digital Marketers Act. This Act is a list of rules and regulations that these companies must follow. The act prevents them from using any unethical trick.
It is a part of the European Union’s sweeping update to the digital rulebook that is occurring this year.
The EU’s executive commission said, “Digital platforms can be listed as gatekeepers if they act as gateways between businesses and consumers by providing core platform services”.
The act notified them (Google’s Chrome browser, Microsoft’s Windows operating systems, Meta, Whatsapp, TikTok, Amazon Marketplace, and Appl’s App Store) to comply with the Act’s requirements. The companies have six months before complying.
